At Length:

Barrett McGee writes speculative fiction about young LGBTQ+ people still trying to find their way in the world.  He has degrees in sociology and student development and is a recent graduate of Seton Hill University’s MFA in Writing Popular Fiction.

Barrett lives and works in Pennsylvania as a student affairs professional in higher education where he constantly tries to convince students to make decisions like the characters in his stories do.  His passion for working with college students inspires his work in the young adult genre.  His writing often explores the roles society places on us, LGBTQ+ individuals in worlds where they don’t have to define or defend themselves, complicated family relationships, and the blinding power of religion.

A native of Louisiana, Barrett grew up watching the 90s X-Men Animated Series and since then loves to include people with powers in his writing.  He spends his time teaching people how to properly say the word “pecan” and watching videos about Marvel easter eggs.
